Charlotte Area Charter Schools
Charter Schools were originally started in the early 1990’s in Minnesota. They are independently operated public schools. The purpose behind Charter Schools is to serve as a laboratory, of sorts, for approaching education from different angles, with fewer rules and regulations to govern specific methods. They are completely created and run by parents, teachers, and/or community leaders. While they receive the same funding as public schools, there are less restrictions on how the school is run, enabling more freedom for the administrators, as well as the teachers. These schools must be approved by the NC Board of Education before they can open. Additionally they are subject to reviews to make sure that certain guidelines are being met.
