App State Wins In The Big House!
Posted by: | CommentsIn case you missed it, the entire state of North Carolina is still celebrating Appalachian State University’s HUGE 34-32 win over Michigan AT Michigan! Wow. It’s being called the biggest upset not only in college football history, but in sports history!
Appalachian (pronounced A-pa-latch-in, not A-pa-lay-chin), or App State is coming off of two consecutive Division 1-AA Championships. As the parent of a new App State freshman, I was rooting for App to pull off the improbable. The little team that could found a way to overcome all odds and not only win, but they did it with style – blocking a last minute "sure thing" Michigan field goal to win. The announcers lost all pretense of formality and were cheering wildly along with students. A finale that, I’m sure, will be replayed for decades to come as everyone (at least everyone rooting for App) will revel in and remember where they were when the game ended.
Before Saturday afternoon, Appalachian may have been just another relatively unknown school in a small town in the North Carolina mountains. Not anymore – now the entire country will know how Appalachian has been ranked for years by Kiplinger’s as one of the best educational values in the country. Boone will no longer be our little secret as a great destination in the mountains. Ahhh the price of fame.
Way to go Mountaineers!
Panthers Win For Charlotte!
Posted by: | CommentsHey hey hey! The Panthers and the Chiefs both pull out a win for us, prompting Keith’s wife to bring in football shaped donuts from local favorite - Krispy Kreme!
Krispy Kreme actually got it’s start in nearby Winston-Salem when Vernon Rudolph bought the recipe from a french chef in New Orleans. On July 13, 1937, he began selling the tasty treats in grocery stores. The public began asking for ‘hot’ donuts, and the rest is history (really tasty history!). Nowadays, it takes a pretty strong willed stomach to pass by a lit up “Hot Donuts Now” neon sign without pulling over to buy some!
